A special train journey full of impressions<\/strong>
In 2026, the Lienz Railway Enthusiasts are once again inviting you to join them on a special Ascension Day-trip with the popular S\u00fcdbahn-Express. Our destination: Linz, the capital of Upper Austria on the Danube \u2013 an exciting destination that perfectly combines industrial history, technology, culture and joie de vivre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look forward to three eventful days with a varied programme, impressive railway routes, travelling together and plenty of opportunities to marvel, take photos and enjoy yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, 14 May \u2013 Arrival in Linz<\/strong>
In the morning, it’s time to board the train again \u2013 the S\u00fcdbahn Express departs from Lienz and takes us via Spittal \u2013 Bischofshofen \u2013 Stainach-Irdning \u2013 Attnang-Puchheim \u2013 Trauner Schleife to Linz.
The journey takes us along some of Austria’s most beautiful railway lines through the Drau Valley, the Enns Valley and the Upper Austrian Alpine foothills. Short stops are planned along the way, giving photographers and railway enthusiasts the chance to capture the train in atmospheric settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, we arrive in Linz, where we check into our rooms. The evening is free \u2013 perfect for a stroll along the Danube or a leisurely visit to a Linz pub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday, 15 May \u2013 Technology, steel and the Danube<\/strong>
After breakfast, an exciting day in the city on the Danube awaits us: first, we will experience the Linz harbour area from a whole new perspective on a harbour tour. Between push barges, cranes and modern cultural projects, you can feel the pulse of the city here.
Afterwards, we will enjoy lunch together before an exclusive guided tour of Voestalpine \u2013 one of Austria’s most important industrial companies. We take a look at the world of blast furnaces, rolling mills and steel production \u2013 impressive and educational at the same time!
The evening is free for individual activities \u2013 whether a stroll through the city, a visit to a museum or a cosy get-together, Linz offers something for every taste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday, 16 May \u2013 Culture and photo trip on the way home<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday morning, we set off on our journey home \u2013 but the trip still has some special highlights in store: via Steyr, we travel to Admont, where a guided tour of the famous abbey library awaits us. This magnificent library is considered the largest of its kind in the world and impresses with its Baroque architecture and over 200,000 historical volumes.
We then continue our journey via Selzthal \u2013 Knittelfeld \u2013 Feldkirchen \u2013 Spittal to Lienz. An impressive journey home through varied landscapes concludes this eventful special train trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
