Trip into the blue – Ferlach

Our autumn trip this year takes us on a completely new route to Ferlach. In 2022 in spring, our four Schlieren wagons were pulled by the 93.1332 steam locomotive from Rosenbach through the beautiful Rosental valley. This autumn, we want to take our Südbahn-Express – one of Austria’s most beautiful nostalgia trains – along the newly electrified route from Klagenfurt to Weizelsdorf for the first time. There, the 93.1332 of the Nostalgia Railways in Carinthia will again welcome us and take us to Ferlach.
Arrival and departure take us along the beautiful Wörthersee, whose name derives from the Old High German Werdersee/Inselsee and refers to the three islands – Blumeninsel – Kapuzinerinsel – and Maria Loretto.
Optionally, after lunch in Ferlach, you have the opportunity to visit the HISTORAMA transport museum by tram of the Nostalgia Railways in Carinthia from Ferlach station (approx. 14:00 h) (no guided tour, self-exploration). On 4,700 m² of exhibition space you will find many vehicles and objects from the world of transport of yesteryear in Austria’s second largest transport museum. You might even rediscover grandpa’s first car, or learn about the simple equipment used by the fire brigade decades ago.
In front of the museum there is also the possibility to enjoy chestnuts and a glass of cider.
Those who prefer to visit the town of Ferlach and the Gunsmith & Hunting Museum will have time to do so after lunch (14:00 h). Guided tours are free for groups of 15 or more.
In the Gunsmith and Hunting Museum, the gunsmith’s craft and the myth of hunting are comprehensively presented. In addition to historical weapons, you can see many trophies of domestic and foreign animals from the Horten and Dr Hellmuth Reichel collections. The charm of the landscape, the intact quality of life and experience and the encounter between man and nature are also impressively reflected in the rooms of the gunsmithing and hunting museum in Ferlach Castle.

Christmas Market Salzburg

Have you ever experienced the colourful hustle and bustle around the Christmas markets in Salzburg? If not (or perhaps again), you will have the opportunity to do so on 2 December. The Südbahn-Express, one of the most beautiful nostalgic trains in Austria, will take you comfortably and relaxed to Salzburg and back. From the main station in Salzburg, our trolley bus will take you to the city centre (and pick you up there again in the afternoon), from where you can visit a variety of markets and explore the city.
